14, Smile

His god's smile was a wondrous thing to behold, watching those full lips quark, muscles moving, eyes getting bright. Yes, bright, Mikami liked that word, maybe it was because Light never really smiled that often. He smirked, he grinned, he laughed, but true, wonderful, smiles were hard to come by at any time.

It was more likely to see his god dancing, or some other childish, horrible thing.

Mikami looked for those rare smiles, he hunted for them, whenever he could. They had control, god was in charge of the world. It was Light's, Light's to play with, to make as he saw fit, to delete the evil doers that dared do think they could do bad things.

And Mikami was so happy to be his god's helper, his angel, anything that god needed.

Anything.

He did his best everyday. Went beyond the call of duty, as it where. He deleted nonstop, oversaw operations, made sure things went smoothly. All for a smile from god, his god. And he smiled too, as much as possible, to a point that it was slightly scary to new workers and worshipers of their god, but he didn't care, he was happy!

That was why when Light called him in one evening and asked him to sit, a perfect, beautiful smile graced upon his lips, Mikami was ecstatic, grinning happily.

He sat, his own smile fading when a death note was pushed to him. At the top of the page...

His name... his name...

His smile fell.

"God? ...why...?"

And Light smirked, all grace and beauty gone, replaced with a coldness that chilled Mikami to the bone, more then anything ever before.

"Because you smile too much."

Mikami cried out, falling from his chair as he felt his heart clench, agony searing his chest.
